Free Seminars:
Join us for seminars and bird walks on select Saturdays. Check our calendar below for upcoming dates. One hour seminars start at 9:00 AM at Danielle’s Deli, the terrific sandwich shop right next door to Blue Ridge Bird Seed Company.
Bird and Nature Walks:
Our bird walks are relaxed and fun. We’ll see a lot of birds and introduce you to some great local hotspots you can visit on your own later on. Plus, you’ll meet some wonderful people! We are fortunate to have a number of skilled and experienced birders in our group, who are always willing to help with identification and answer questions. Always easy access and easy walking. Beginners and kids are welcome! Bring binoculars and dress for the weather.
Winter bird walks run from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. Meet at the store at 8:45 AM for bird walks at local hotspots for birds of the season, or join us at the designated walk location about 9:00 AM.
Spring and summer bird walks run from 8:00 – 10:00 AM (sometimes we linger a little longer…) Meet at the store at 7:45 AM, or join us at the designated walk location about 8:00 AM.

Joe LaFleur, creator of the “Better Birdwatching” DVDs, will join us for a bird walk at Fannin County Park, where we’ll see winter visitors and early migrants. Then he’ll be demonstrating his DVDs and answering questions in the store for a couple of hours. His DVDs feature great video and audio of birds in their natural habitats – a terrific learning tool! Meet at the store at 9:00 or join us in the Park a few minutes later. Bring binocs and bird book, and dress for the weather. Beginners and interested kids are always welcome. | ||

| Time: 9:00am. Admission: Free. Age restrictions: All Ages. Venue phone: 706-258-2473. Just in time for returning Hummers! Those little dynamos are back in Georgia in small numbers the last week of March, and in flocks by April 10th. Be ready for them – we’ll cover hummer ID, behavior and life cycle, then watch them in action on a couple of amazing DVDs. You’ll learn about feeders, including the new top-fill feeders, and how to locate them for maximum success. Nectar — red or clear, homemade or commercial, pre-mixed or powder — we’ll answer your questions. We’ll also help you deal with ants and wasps. Join us at 9:00 AM at Danielle’s Deli, next door to Blue Ridge Bird Seed Company in Fieldstone Village on East Main in downtown Blue Ridge. | Time: 8:00am. Admission: Free. Age restrictions: All Ages. Venue phone: 706-258-2473. Here’s the scedule for Spring Migration bird walks. We’ll be starting at 8:00 (the sun will be up earlier and the bird activity will be earlier as well) and bird until 10 or 10:30. More details will be available later, but we’ll visit the local hotspots — Fannin County Park, Lake Blue Ridge area, Davenport Farm Road, Old Quarry Road and Mercier Orchards. Bring binocs and bird book and dress for the weather. Get your calendar and mark these dates (all Saturdays): April 10, April 24, May 1, May 8, May 15, and May 29. We’ll go rain or shine, unless we have lightning risk. Details and updates will be available here, and we’ll have listings in the Community Calendar section of The News Observer. | Time: 9:00am. Admission: FREE. Age restrictions: All Ages. Venue phone: 706-258-2473. Meet at Danielle’s Great Eats Deli, next door to Blue Ridge Bird Seed Company in downtown Blue Ridge. Using slides, audio recordings and DVDs, we’ll review common spring feeder birds. We’ll cover our year-round residents (chickadees, nuthatches, finches, titmice, cardinals, blackbirds, and sparrows,) spring migrants (warblers, rose-breasted grosbeak) and summer residents (orchard oriole, indigo bunting, blue grosbeak.) This is a great opportunity to learn the names and habits of some of the birds we’ll see on our migration bird walks. Beginners and interested kids are very welcome! We’ll visit Lake Blue Ridge Marina, Lakewood Landing and Morganton Point Rec area for water birds. then we’ll check out Old Quarry Road, where I found LOTS of birds during the Blue Ridge Christmas Bird Count. Meet at 9:00 AM at Blue Ridge Bird Seed Company on East Main in downtown Blue Ridge or join us at the marina a few minutes after 9:00. Bring binocs and spotting scopes and dress for the weather.
